Chicago Cubs infielder David Bote has worked to become a more versatile player this season, and the team is rewarding him as they’ve signed him to a lengthy contract extension.

Team President Theo Epstein said that Bote has agreed to an extension through the 2024 season, with two club options coming at the end of the contract.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by the club. According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, Bote will make at least $15 million over the life of the deal, but incentives could push the value even higher. 

The club options are for $7 million in 2025 and $7.6 million in 2026, according to Gonzales. 

The contract will represent a good deal of security for Bote, who wasn’t going to be eligible to hit free agency until after the 2024 season. He is set to make $560,000 this season for the Cubs, as he hasn’t yet hit a full year of major league service time.

In 78 career games, Bote has hit six home runs and driven in 33 RBI while batting .246. He has hit several noteworthy home runs, including a famous walk-off grand slam in a nationally televised game against the Washington Nationals last season.
