Cubs Look to Continue Winning Ways in Elimination Games

Cubs have won six of their last eight elimination games

The Chicago Cubs have found themselves on the brink of elimination a lot over the last four seasons, and they’ll have to face down that prospect again when they take on the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.

The Cubs, who will appear in the National League Wild Card Game twice during their current four-year playoff streak, have played in a total of eight postseason games during that time in which they’ve faced elimination.

Cubs fans will be thrilled to know that the team is 6-2 in those games, including three straight wins during the 2016 World Series against the Cleveland Indians.

Chicago Cubs Year in Review: History-Making Moments

Last season, they went 2-1 in games in which they faced elimination, winning Game 5 of the NLDS against the Washington Nationals and Game 4 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but losing Game 5 of that series.

Surprisingly, the Cubs have actually been outscored in those games by a margin of 41-40, but Game 5 of the 2017 NLCS is a big part of that, with the Dodgers notching an 11-1 triumph at Wrigley Field in that game.

As for the Rockies, they have played in five total elimination games in team history, going 1-4 in those contests and losing their last four. Their lone win in an elimination game came in 1995, when they beat the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of the NLDS before falling in Game 4.

Chicago Cubs Flashback: Looking Back at the Team's Recent Playoff Success

The Rockies were in the National League Wild Card Game last season, falling 1-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a game at Chase Field.

The teams will do battle in the winner-take-all game on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field, with first pitch scheduled for just after 7 p.m.
