The Chicago Cubs have placed reliever Carl Edwards Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a left thoracic strain, the team announced Thursday.

Edwards Jr., who does have a 5.40 ERA on the season, has been stellar since returning from the minor leagues in May. He has a 1-1 record and four holds this season for the Cubs, who are still awaiting the arrival of new closer Craig Kimbrel.

To replace Edwards Jr. on the active roster, the Cubs have recalled pitcher Tim Collins from Triple-A Iowa. Collins has a 3.86 ERA in five relief appearances with the Cubs, and he has posted a 1-1 record and a 2.12 ERA during his minor league stints.

The Cubs will be able to activate Edwards on June 20, as the move was made retroactive to June 10.

The Cubs will next take the field on Thursday night when they open a four-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. as Jon Lester takes on Clayton Kershaw.
