Bryce Harper Reportedly Inks Massive Deal With Phillies

Harper has reportedly inked a 13-year contract with the Phillies

The drama over where outfielder Bryce Harper would land in free agency has come to an end, as the free agent has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, Harper will receive $330 million in the contract, the richest deal by dollar amount in baseball history. The deal will run for 13 years, according to reports, and will not feature any opt-out clauses for either side.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan and The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal have also confirmed the signing, which comes with spring training underway and with several marquee free agents still without teams.

The Chicago Cubs had long been rumored to be a potential landing spot for Harper before he hit free agency, but as the offseason began it became clear that the team wasn’t going to be willing, or able, to spend the money necessary to land the superstar outfielder.

The White Sox had also been involved in the Harper sweepstakes, but had largely pulled out after Manny Machado signed a free agent deal with the San Diego Padres.
