Cubs Bench Coach Brandon Hyde Named Orioles Manager

Hyde served as the team's bench coach after Dave Martinez took a managerial job in 2016

For the second offseason in a row, the Chicago Cubs will be looking for a new bench coach, as the Baltimore Orioles officially named Brandon Hyde as their new manager.

Hyde, who had been with the Cubs since the 2013 season, will be the 20th manager in team history, the Orioles said in a press release, and will take over for Buck Showalter, who was let go after nine seasons with the club.

This marks the second year in a row that the Cubs will have to replace their bench coach, as Dave Martinez left the job in 2017 after being hired by the Washington Nationals as their new manager.

There have been several candidates mentioned to take over as Joe Maddon's top lieutenant, including Raul Ibanez, Will Venable, and David Ross
