Anthony Rizzo Joins Exclusive Cubs Club With 200th Home Run

Rizzo becomes just the ninth Cubs player to hit 200 or more home runs with the team

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo has accomplished a lot since he joined the North Siders, and after hitting a home run in Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins, the slugger is part of an exclusive club.

The home run was the 200th of Rizzo’s Cubs career, a shot to center field that was punctuated by an incredible pose as Rizzo dropped to one knee following the blast.

With the long ball, Rizzo became just the ninth player in Cubs history to hit 200 or more home runs with the club, joining a list of players that includes five Hall of Famers, including Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, and Ryne Sandberg.

The slugger does have a long way to go if he wants to reach the top of the Cubs’ home run list. Sammy Sosa slugged 545 of them in his 13 seasons with the team, including 66 during an historic 1998 season.

Rizzo, who was acquired by the Cubs in a 2012 trade, was the first piece that President Theo Epstein and G.M. Jed Hoyer brought on board, and he has paid huge dividends since. The slugger has not only clubbed 200 home runs in a Cubs uniform, but has won a World Series title in 2016 and a pair of Gold Glove awards for his defense at first base.

Rizzo and the Cubs will next take the field on Friday afternoon when they take on the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field to start a three-game series.
