Chicago Cubs Activate Kris Bryant, Addison Russell in Flurry of Roster Moves

Kris Bryant has been out since late July

The Chicago Cubs have made it official, activating Kris Bryant and Addison Russell from the 10-day disabled list.

The team also called up pitcher James Norwood, pinch-running specialist Terrance Gore, and catcher Taylor Davis, as MLB rosters expand to 40 players at the beginning of the month.

To make room for Davis and Gore on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated pitchers Luke Farrell and Rob Zastryzny for assignment.

Bryant has been on the disabled list since July with a left shoulder injury, and will bat fifth for the Cubs as they play the Philadelphia Phillies. He has a new follow-through on his swing that’s designed to take stress off the shoulder, and he’s hopeful that he will show more power as he returns to the mix.

Russell has been dealing with a finger issue, and will likely be limited to defensive replacement duty as the Cubs try to deal with the defensive limits of Daniel Murphy at second base.

With the moves, the Cubs’ active roster stands at 30 players, and their 40-man roster is maxed out at 40.
