A Chicago woman on Monday evening was charged with DUI after a crash hours earlier injured seven people, including three children.
Robin Sewell, 29, was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and cited for not having a license, driving a vehicle without insurance and disobeying a traffic control signal, police said.
Authorities said Sewell, of the 5000 block of South Throop Street, was driving a van westbound on 43rd Street in Chicago's south side Grand Boulevard neighborhood when she ran a red light and hit a sedan heading northbound on LaSalle Street at 1:35 a.m., police said.
Sewell and the driver of the sedan, a 28-year-old man, were both taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and listed in stable condition, the Chicago Police Department's Hector Alfaro said.
Two adults and three children who had been riding in the sedan were also injured, Alfaro said. The adults were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and the children were taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.
A fire official said the children were two babies and a 7-year-old, but police couldn't immediately confirm that.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, Alfaro said.
Sewell was ordered to appear in traffic court March 14 at 50 W. Washington St., police said.
