Police Explore Possible ‘Hoax' After Digging For Body on South Side

Chicago police found nothing after digging in a lot on the city's South Side when a person flagged down beat officers Tuesday to report a female body buried in a grassy area, police said.

The macabre excavation was underway in the 4500 block of South Wood Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Multiple police cars and forensics teams could be seen in the area.

“Someone flagged down beat officers to say there was a body buried there,” Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in an email.

He later said in a tweet police were exploring of the tip was a hoax.

No other information was immediately available.
