Coney Dogs to Make Comeback in Chicago at Humbolt Park Wiener Stand

Misplaced Michiganders can once again relish in the hot dog of their homeland when “the only Detroit style Coney Island in Chicago" opens this year.

Lola’s Coney Island is slated to open in March of 2019 at 2858 W. Chicago Ave., according to the eatery’s Facebook page.

“Lola’s, named after the first born of owner and founder Jesse Fakhoury, is the only Detroit style Coney Island in Chicago, and in fact the whole state of Illinois,” the page reads.

Leo’s Coney Island, a Michigan chain, opened a short-lived Lakeview location that shuttered in 2013.

Lola’s owner Jesse Fakhoury told Curbed the business would not be impartial on the great Chicago ketchup debate.

“We are not going to condone that kind of behavior,” he said. “As a Detroit guy growing up — eww — it didn’t seem right.”

Fakhoury moved from Detroit to Chicago in 2000, Curbed reports.

“I just really wanted a Coney,” he told the publication.

The Coney dogs will be legit, too—using chili and sausages from Detroit staple National Coney Island, Fakhoury said.
