While it's nothing like what the East Coast is dealing with, a bit of snow and freezing rain will make for tough driving conditions in the Chicago area Monday afternoon and evening.
Monday started off with a bit of blue sky and rays of sun before clouds move in. Flurries in the early afternoon increased, but snow totals aren't expected to amount to much more than a nuisance.
Expect a dusting to 0.5 inches, perhaps up to one inch of snow in areas inland. While not a lot, it's enough to cause problems on roadways.
The National Weather Service in Chicago issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for several Chicago-area counties just before 5 p.m. Monday. The advisory remains in effect in DeKalb, McHenry, Grundy, Kane, Kendall and LaSalle counties until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Ice accumulations are expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, but could cause "slippery and hazardous travel conditions," the NWS said.
The Chicago Deptartment of Streets and Sanitation said 280 snow plows would be out on Lake Shore Drive and other main Chicago streets for the evening commute.
The system is quick-moving and should be out of the area by Tuesday.

The week will be an active one, weather-wise. Forecast models generated Monday morning showed precipitation is likely on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
