Showers, Windy Conditions on Tap for Chicago Area Monday

Scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms will likely hit the area on Monday morning

The Monday morning commute could bring occasionally heavy rains and high winds as the new work week begins.

During the overnight hours, temperatures will remain steady in the mid-50s, but will climb throughout the morning. Dense fog is also expected, making for potentially tricky driving conditions in the pre-dawn hours.

As rush hour gets underway, showers and some thunderstorms are expected to move into the area, putting a damper on the morning commute in the city.

As the morning moves along, the rain is expected to get heavier, with the late morning bringing the potential for sporadic downpours and thunderstorms.

In addition to the rain, the winds will also increase throughout the day, with gusts exceeding 35 mph possible throughout the area.

After noon, a cold front will move through the area, sending temperatures on a downward trajectory after a high in the low-to-mid 60s. The rain will also mostly move out of the region, with a widely scattered shower still possible, but the wind will remain through Tuesday.

On Tuesday, temperatures will drop back to slightly-below-average levels in the mid-50s, and after a brief warm-up Wednesday the mercury will once again plunge, with temperatures struggling to reach the 50-degree mark by Friday.
