An American Airlines flight from Charlotte to Chicago was forced to return to Charlotte Douglas International Airport due to a “mechanical issue,” the airline said Wednesday.
Flight 1668 “landed safely and taxied to the gate,” American Airlines spokeswoman Leslie Scott said.
Details on what the mechanical issue was weren’t immediately known. According to NBC affiliate WCNC, fire crews surrounded the jet as it landed.
“We have swapped to a different aircraft, and plan on re-departing shortly,” Scott said.
