Cardinal Francis George was released from the hospital Friday afternoon, one week after he was admitted for what was described as "flu-like" symptoms and dehydration.
The 77-year-old was treated with antibiotics at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood after an infection was identified.
According to a news release, George will resume his chemotherapy "when his doctors feel it is appropriate, and will continue to maintain his administrative and public schedule.
George is undergoing a new round of chemotherapy to treat an aggressive form of cancer in his right kidney.
The cardinal's spokesperson said George remains in good spirits and is doing well.
