The Chicago Bulls went into Friday’s game against the Golden State Warriors hoping to take advantage of a short-handed squad, but that’s not what happened as they were absolutely throttled by the defending champions.
The Warriors ended up beating the Bulls 143-94, a 49-point margin of victory. That total is the worst in the NBA so far this season, and it ranks as one of the worst losses in the history of the Bulls franchise.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 49-point loss is the third-worst in the history of the Bulls. Steph Curry poured in 33 points, including four three-pointers, and Klay Thompson chipped in with 29 more as the Warriors ran their record to 14-5.
Fortunately for the Bulls, who are now 3-14 and have lost nine of their last 10 games, this wasn’t the worst loss that they’ve ever suffered. That result came in a Nov. 2001 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Bulls were trounced 127-74 in the contest, a 53-point margin that is one of the worst defeats in NBA history.
In case you were curious, the Bulls’ Friday loss isn’t even close to being the worst of all-time in the NBA. The Cleveland Cavaliers laid a historic beating on the Miami Heat in a 1991 game, winning by a staggering 68 points in a 148-80 triumph.
