No Change on D. Rose's Status

The Chicago Bulls point guard is running and shooting, but nowhere close to being able to practice

The Chicago Bulls have just 19 games left in the 2013-14 NBA season, and fans hoping that Derrick Rose will play again this season probably shouldn’t hold their breath.

Although the hoopla around Rose’s return isn’t the central focus of the Bulls this season as it was last year, a possible comeback by the former MVP has always been the hope.

After Monday’s practice at the Berto Center, Rose was shooting jump shots and seemed to be moving normally, but Tom Thibodeau says not much has changed with his point guard’s status.

"Basically about the same," said the head coach. "He’s doing a little bit more running now. He’s still nowhere near ready to practice. But he’s doing well. His spirit is strong. His body feels good. Just keep concentrating on the rehab, be a great teammate and that’s what he’s doing."

As for practicing with his teammates, Thibodeau says he didn’t want to rule anything out, but he also noted that D. Rose isn’t quite there yet.

"We’ll see where we are at the end of the year if he gets cleared to practice. But there’s no timetable on that," Thibodeau said. "Just put everything you have into each and every day with the rehab, get stronger. We want to make sure he’s completely healthy before he moves forward. I don’t want to even speculate [about practicing]. If he can, he will. He’s not close right now."
