Patrick Kane Cements Unique Spot in History With Thursday Goal

Kane scored the first goal of the Jeremy Colliton era on Thursday

For the first time in over 10 years, the Chicago Blackhawks took the ice without Joel Quenneville behind the bench, but the script was remarkably similar even with Jeremy Colliton calling the shots.

The Blackhawks, who were taking on the Carolina Hurricanes at the United Center for Colliton’s coaching debut, went down by four goals early, but finally got on the board thanks to Patrick Kane, who scored in the second period to cut into that lead.

Blackhawks fans who remember Quenneville’s first game as head coach back in 2008 will know that Kane also scored the first goal of his tenure with the team. The Blackhawks did go on to lose that game, but their run under Coach Q was pretty successful, as the team won three Stanley Cups and went to two more Western Conference Finals.

As always, Christopher Kamka of NBC Sports Chicago had the final word on the unique stats behind the goal, as Kane became the first Blackhawks player to score a “first goal” under two different head coaches since Eric Daze accomplished the feat for both Craig Hartsburg and Dirk Graham.
