Chicago Blackhawks Acquire Olli Maatta From Penguins

The Blackhawks sent Dominik Kahun and a fifth round pick to the Penguins in the deal

The Chicago Blackhawks have made a big addition to their blue line, acquiring defenseman Olli Maatta from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Maatta, who has won two Stanley Cups during his time with the Penguins, had one goal and 13 assists during the 2018-19 season. The former first round pick is set to make $4.08 million next season, and is signed through the 2021-22 campaign.

In exchange, the Blackhawks sent forward Dominik Kahun and a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft to the Penguins.

Last season, Kahun scored 13 goals and registered 24 assists, and appeared in all 82 games for the Blackhawks. He also starred in the 2018 Olympics for Germany, scoring two goals and three assists as the club won a silver medal in Pyeongchang.

The trade leaves the Blackhawks with 17 players on their active roster, and the team has $66 million in contracts on the books.
