Ryan Pace, Matt Nagy Praise Vic Fangio as He Takes Broncos Job

Fangio was officially named the Broncos' new head coach on Thursday

The Denver Broncos made it official on Thursday, hiring Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio as their new head coach.

After the hire was made official, Bears General Manager Ryan Pace and Head Coach Matt Nagy both issued statements of support as Fangio moves on to his new job.

Here is what Pace had to say:

“I want to thank Vic for his last four seasons as our Defensive Coordinator and wish him the best as Head Coach of the Denver Broncos. Vic was a key leader in bringing great defense back to Chicago. We will continue to build upon the foundation he helped establish. Under the leadership of Head Coach Matt Nagy and the rest of his coaching staff, we are confident in the development and improvement of a talented defensive unit.”

Nagy issued a statement of his own, saying that he’s happy Fangio is going to get a head coaching opportunity:

“I want to congratulate Vic on his opportunity of becoming a head coach in the NFL. There are only 32 of these jobs in the world and I know what it means to him to get his chance in Denver. I also want to thank him for all his help in my first season with the Chicago Bears. It is bittersweet to move on, but he has more than earned this opportunity and I could not be happier for him.”

Fangio was the Bears’ defensive coordinator for four seasons after being hired in 2015. Under his guidance the Bears put together one of the top defenses in the NFL.

The Bears and Broncos will play during the 2019 season, with the two teams squaring off in Denver.
