After Practice Skirmish, Kyle Long Stays Home as Bears Travel to New York: Reports

Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long did not travel with his teammates to New York for Friday’s preseason game against the Giants, according to multiple reports.

Long, who was ejected from a Wednesday practice after getting into a fight with a teammate, remained in Chicago as the rest of his teammates headed to the Big Apple for their second preseason tilt on Friday night, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune and Adam Hoge of WGN Sports.

Long apparently ripped off a teammate’s helmet during a scrimmage on Wednesday, then was tossed from practice by the team’s coaching staff. It was the second altercation Long has had with a teammate during the preseason, as he also got into a scuffle with defensive lineman Akiem Hicks earlier this week.

It’s likely Long wouldn’t have played against the Giants regardless, but his absence from the team is likely meant to sent a message about his behavior at practice. Head coach Matt Nagy said that he was “disappointed” in Wednesday’s fracas, and that the team would handle the issue internally.
