Chicago Bears tight end Adam Shaheen was carted off the field during Saturday’s win over the Denver Broncos, but reports indicate he may have escaped serious injury.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Shaheen’s injury wasn’t as bad as it first appeared, and he may still be able to play in Week 1 of the regular season despite suffering what the team believes is a low-ankle sprain.
More tests are being done on the ankle, and Shaheen’s condition will be updated later, the team says.
Shaheen suffered the injury while running after a catch during the first quarter of the game Saturday. He was tackled low, and was immediately helped off the field and sent to the locker room on a cart.
The Bears’ next game will be Saturday at Soldier Field as they host their preseason home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
