Chicago-Area Toddler Shot, Likely Had Access to Loaded Handgun: Police

A toddler was injured after being shot in the hand Saturday morning inside a private Chicago residence, according to the Glenwood Police Department.

The incident took place inside a home located in the 139 S. Young St. in Glenwood.

In a statement, authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates that "this likely resulted from the child being able to access a loaded handgun.”

The child was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and the officials said the family is cooperating.

GPD would like to remind all gun owners to properly secure their weapons, in addition to providing free gun locks for those in need.

No other information was immediately known.
