New Trier High School is seeing double thanks to its sophomore class earning two Guinness World Records—Most Twins and Most Multiples in a Single Academic Year at One School.
“It’s every kids dream to be in the Guinness Book of World Records,” said New Trier twin Luke Novosel.
Though both identical and fraternal twins are included in the mix, twin girls dominate the group with 19 pairs versus 11 sets of twin boys.
According to the CDC, the probability of having twins is about 34 in 1,000 births.
“It’s kind of amazing that we can achieve something by just being born at the right time and going to the right school,” said another New trier twin, Nikki Rothstein.
The CDC reported that the twinning rate rose 76 percent from 1980 to 2009; and in 2014, the twin birth rate hit an all-time high.
A statement released by the school said scientific studies suggest several leading factors in multiple births include maternal age, education, and affluence and access to fertility treatments.

“The best part probably has to be you have someone to talk to all the time... you’re never alone,” said New Tier twin Dylan Hardt. “The worst part is that you can’t be alone sometimes.”
At nearly three times the national average, New Tier High School might just have a statistical anomaly on their hands.
