Chicago-Area Freeze Warning, Frost Advisory Issued for Saturday Morning

A freeze warning "means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation."

A new Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory have been issued beginning at 1 a.m. Saturday across the Chicago area.

Just days after near-record heat, the National Weather Service issued the latest warning in advance of expected Saturday morning temperatures in the upper 20s to 30 degrees.

The Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory are expected to expire at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Weather Service reminded residents that a freeze warning "means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation."

A Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory were previously issued for Friday morning.

Mid-day on Friday, several towns in north-central Illinois saw the season's first light snowfall.

The rest of Saturday looks mostly sunny, breezy and not as chilly in the afternoon with highs in low- to mid-50s and gusts up to 20 mph.

Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy and chilly in the morning. Light rain or showers could develop in the afternoon or evening.
