A season after winning 19 games and reaching the finals of the CBI, the DePaul Blue Demons are hoping for an even better 2019-20 season, and they’ll be getting a big boost from a talented transfer.
Guard Charlie Moore, who played his high school basketball at Morgan Park High School, was granted a transfer waiver from the NCAA last week, paving the way for him to take the floor with the Blue Demons when they tip-off their season later this year.
“It’s going to feel great,” he said. “It’ll be my first time playing in front of my family, and it’s good to have support behind me.”
Moore has had quite the basketball odyssey since being named Mr. Basketball in Illinois in 2016. Originally committed to attend Memphis, Moore ended up going to Cal instead, then transferred to Kansas after his first season. After only playing sparingly for the Jayhawks in his sophomore season, Moore transferred to DePaul in order to be closer to his family.
“We are thrilled for Charlie and his family that he will be able to play immediately in his hometown,” DePaul head coach Dave Leitao said in a statement. “We appreciate the understanding of the NCAA staff for considering this request and the University of Kansas for their assistance through this process.”
Moore and the Blue Demons will tip-off their season with an exhibition on Oct. 29, then will officially open their campaign Nov. 5 against Alcorn State.
