Willowbrook Man Wins $2M in Powerball Drawing

Charles Malone, his wife plan to share winnings with children, grandchildren

A Willowbrook man said Wednesday he plans to buy his dream home after winning a $2 million Powerball jackpot.

Charles Malone said he drove by a certain Clarendon Hills home every day and told his wife that someday he'd find a way to buy it for her.

Now he can, after hitting the first five numbers in the March 16 drawing.

"My plans are to give my wife a brand new house and a brand new car," said Malone, a Vietnam Veteran and a retired nurse who worked his last 10 years at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.

The couple also plans to share the winnings with their six children and 15 grandchildren.

The check was presented Wednesday at the Falcon Pantry, at 6601 S. Cass Ave., in Westmont, where Malone bought the ticket.

He'll receive $1,400,000 after required state and federal withholding. The store received a $20,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
