Chance the Rapper was forced to cancel his performance at a charity event in New York after he was diagnosed with pneumonia.
The Chicago musician tweeted about the illness Tuesday, one day after unconfirmed reports claimed he had been hospitalized. It remains unclear whether or not he was in fact hospitalized, however.
Chance, whose real name is Chancelor Bennett, was slated to perform at New York’s Terminal 5 for the “Night for NYC” event Monday hosted by the Robin Hood organization. The event aimed to raise money to fight poverty.
Robin Hood tweeted Monday afternoon, however, that Anderson Paak, Mark Ronson and Joey Bada$$ would be replacing Chance the Rapper in the lineup.
The Chatham native most recently appeared on “The Tonight Show” Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he debuted his new song “Blessings” off his upcoming album “Chance 3,” set for release Friday.
In his tweet Tuesday, Chance assured fans the pneumonia would not impact the album’s scheduled release.
“Thank you @joeyBADASS and @AndersonPaak for filling in for me and supporting a great cause,” he wrote. “GREAT Men. I got pneumonia but #Chance3 still.”
Many had speculated about when the young rapper, who remains unsigned to a music label, would release new music, particularly after his guest verse on Kanye West's album "The Life of Pablo." In the song "Ultra Light Beam," Chance the Rapper referenced "Chance 3" and even performed with West on "Saturday Night Live" in February.
Last month, he debuted a music video for his most recent single "Angels," which shows him riding on top of a CTA train in Chicago.
