All Remaining Carson's Stores Expected to Close

All remaining Carson's locations are expected to close their doors after a judge approved its parent company's liquidation plan Wednesday.

Bon-Ton, Carson’s parent company, declared bankruptcy earlier this year, and on Wednesday a judge signed off on the company’s liquidation plan, meaning that all Carson’s locations around the country will likely close for good.

All stores are expected to close by the end of August, according to court filings. More than 20,000 people nationwide are expected to lose their jobs because of the closures.

Frustration is mounting in suburban Matteson after a Carson’s location closed after more than 40 years. NBC 5’s Chris Hush has more as the community copes with the shocking closure.

"We are incredibly grateful to all of our associates for their dedicated service to Bon-Ton and to our millions of loyal customers who we have had the pleasure to serve as their hometown store for more than 160 years," CEO Bill Tracy said. "We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact of this development on our associates, customers, and communities we serve."
