Cars Damaged on Indiana Highway by Fired Projectiles: Police

Police departments in central Indiana are warning the public to be vigilant after a series of incidents involving someone throwing or firing projectiles at moving vehicles on an interstate highway.

According to police in Lebanon, a town northwest of Indianapolis, a total of nine such incidents have been reported since March. In each of the incidents, an unknown person has thrown or fired an unidentified projectile into vehicles, causing damage to the cars.

A total of seven of the nine incidents have occurred between 71st Street and mile marker 138 on Interstate 65, according to police. Cars in both the northbound and southbound lanes have been targeted, and the damage has primarily been done to the driver’s side of the vehicles affected.

Two of the vehicles suffered damage to their windshields, while three more suffered damage to the driver’s side window. Three more cars were damaged on the driver’s side door, according to authorities.

The investigation into the damage is ongoing, and police are urging residents to be vigilant while driving, and to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
