Carlos Rodon Undergoes Surgery on Left Shoulder

The Chicago White Sox have announced that pitcher Carlos Rodon underwent arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder this week.

Rodon, who went 2-5 with a 4.15 ERA in 12 starts this season, was shut down in early September with inflammation in the shoulder, and the surgery was performed to deal with “significant bursitis” in the shoulder, according to G.M. Rick Hahn.

According to the team, the timeframe for Rodon’s recovery and return to the mound will be around six to eight months, meaning that he likely won’t be ready for the start of the 2018 season.

“All things considered, it was as good a result as we could hope for,” Hahn told media members.

After dealing with bursitis in his biceps earlier this year, Rodon finally made his season debut for the White Sox in late June. He was able to make five starts each in July and August, but was shut down after going just four innings in a start against the Tampa Bay Rays in early September.

The former first round pick has appeared in 66 career big league games, with a 3.95 ERA and a 20-21 record in those contests.
