Car Struck by Pink Line Train in Cicero

A car was struck by a CTA Pink Line train early Thursday morning in west suburban Cicero.

Service on the Pink Line was suspended shortly before 2 a.m. between the 54th/Cermak and Central Park stations because a train struck a vehicle near Cicero, according to a service alert from the CTA.

Sources at the scene said the vehicle was traveling southbound when it allegedly attempted to beat crossing gates or go around crossing gates before it was hit by the westbound train.

Authorities said three people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and all three ran from the scene.

A female driver was later said to be under police watch at Macneal Hospital, according to police.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Thursday morning.

Normal service was restored by 4:30 a.m., the transit agency reported.
