Car Stolen in Carjacking Outside Oakbrook Center Mall Found in Chicago

A woman's car stolen at gunpoint Wednesday morning in the Oakbrook Center Mall parking lot has been found on Chicago's West Side, police said.

The 68-year-old woman was waiting in her Honda Civic at about 9:36 a.m. before heading into work at one of the mall’s stores when the incident occurred, Oak Brook police said.

A white Toyota Camry, which was reported stolen out of Maywood, blocked her in her parking space, police said. A male suspect got out of the Camry, opened the victim’s car door and flashed a gun while demanding she get out, according to police.

The woman got out of her car, grabbed her purse from the back seat and began to run, but the gunman caught up to her and snagged the purse before returning to the car, police said.

Each car was driven from the scene in an unknown direction by two separate suspects, police said.

The Camry was stopped on I-290 Wednesday, police said. Police are trying to identify the man involved in the carjacking and reviewing surveillance video in the area to help in the investigation.

The woman's car was later found abandoned in the 800 block of North Kilbourn in Chicago's West Humboldt Park neighborhood.
