16-Year-Old Girl Without License Drives Car Into Daycare in Zion

An 11-year-old was transported to a hospital, but none of the other 21 children and eight adults in the room were injured

A 16-year-old girl without a license drove into a daycare facility in suburban Zion while several children sat inside eating breakfast Wednesday morning.

The teen was turning into the driveway of Lee's Family Daycare and Learning Center, located at 38833 Sheridan Road, at about 9:15 a.m. when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake, according to preliminary information from the Lake County sheriff's office.

She then lost control of the car and crashed into the building.

Footage from NBC's Sky 5 showed a large hole in the wall of the building as several people stood outside.

An investigation by the sheriff's office showed that the teen's aunt allowed her to drive the car without a license of a learner's permit.

An 11-year-old was transported to Vista Hospital, but none of the other 21 children and eight adults inside were injured as a result of the crash, police said.

The driver was cited for driving without a license and without insurance. Her aunt was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle.
