1 Person Dead, at Least 11 Sent to Hospitals After Massive Car Crash

One person is dead after a massive accident involving eight different cars in downtown Chicago.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Congress Parkway and Wells at approximately 4:20 p.m., according to the Chicago fire department. A total of 23 people were injured in the crash, with 12 being sent to local hospitals.

According to fire officials, seven of those people were sent to hospitals with serious-to-critical injuries, with four of the victims being sent to Stroger Hospital and three more to Northwestern.

Congress Parkway was closed to traffic as the crash was investigated. Traffic is being diverted onto Canal as Illinois State Police investigate the crash.
