Butter Cow ‘Mistake' Being Fixed at Illinois State Fair

Take a closer look at the popular state fair butter cow's banner

Did you catch the butter cow's little "oops" at the Illinois State Fair?

Take a closer look at the cow's banner, also made out of butter. The word "bicentennial" is misspelled. (The second "n" should go with the last "n.")

"Sarah sends her extreme apologies," said Marla Behrends, superintendent of the fair's Dairy Building, on behalf of the butter cow's sculptor.

"Everybody misspells words," Behrends said, adding, "It wasn’t on purpose. It was just a mistake."

Behrends said the typo should be fixed Friday night.

"Somebody said, 'oh gosh, we can’t spell 'bicentennial' in Illinois,'" she said. "But guess what? Sarah’s from Iowa. I guess they can’t spell 'bicentennial' in Iowa."

Boy George and Culture Club headline the state fair's concert Friday night.
