Burglars Hit Same South Side Store 6 Times in 2 Weeks

The burglars have stolen candy, socks, and a dolly in the thefts

Police are warning businesses about six burglaries reported over the past two weeks at the same store in Chatham on the South Side.

In each case, one or more people have pried open the door to the business in the 8500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue before stealing items including boxes of candy, socks and a store dolly, according to a business alert from Chicago police.

The break-ins occurred on the following dates:

  • about 1:30 a.m. May 31;
  • 4:27 a.m. June 4;
  • 5:09 a.m. June 9;
  • 9:53 p.m. June 9;
  • 10:21 p.m. June 10; and
  • 4:17 a.m. June 11.

One suspect was described as a 5-foot-9, 175-pound man between 25 and 35 years old, police said. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, green jacket and black shoes.
