Boy, 9, Killed in Burbank Hit-and-Run Crash, Mother and Child Seriously Injured

A 9-year-old boy was killed and his mother and sibling were seriously injured Saturday night in a hit-and-run crash in southwest suburban Burbank.

About 9:45 p.m., a 29-year-old woman and her children were walking west across Cicero Avenue near 86th Street when they were struck by a gray or silver 2007 or 2008 Ford Fusion four-door sedan that was southbound on Cicero, Burbank police said. The vehicle, which should have front-end damage, was last seen traveling west on 87th Street from Cicero.

Caleb Bell, 9, was taken to Christ Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead early Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He lived in the Scottsdale neighborhood on the Far South Side.

An autopsy Monday did not rule on the cause and manner of his death pending police investigation, the medical examiner’s office said.

Caleb Bell’s mother and 6-year-old sister were both taken to hospitals in serious condition, authorities said. Their conditions have since stabilized.

Also on Monday, police released surveillance video of two vehicles being sought in connection with the case. In the video, the offender’s Ford Fusion can be seen about the 5-second mark as it clips a curb while making a right turn onto 87th Street, according to police.

Investigators are also seeking a white SUV seen at the 26-second mark making a right turn onto 87th Street as a potential witness to the hit-and-run, police said.

Anyone with information of the crash was asked to call Burbank police at (708) 924-7300.
