Bulls Ticket Prices Drop After Rose, Butler Injuries

Statistics show a 22 percent decrease in resale ticket price after Derrick Rose had surgery Feb. 27

The Chicago Bulls suffered a blow to their MVP lineup after a slew of injuries in recent weeks, but for fans, the misfortune could mean cheaper tickets.

The price of resale tickets has noticeably dropped since Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler were taken out of the game with injuries, according to Crain's Chicago Business and SeatGeek.com.  Resale tickets prior to Rose's Feb. 27 surgery for a medial meniscus tear averaged between $99 and $110. The week following the surgery, prices dropped to an average of $88, a 20 percent decrease from the week before.

The same day Rose had surgery, Gibson suffered an ankle injury. Two days later, Butler tore a ligament in his left elbow.

Rose is expected to miss four to six weeks, and Butler will miss three to six weeks due to their injuries.

The average price of resale tickets often drops as a big event approaches, but usually it drops roughly 10 percent, SeatGeek analyst Connor Gregoire told Crain's.

Bulls fans saw similar decreases in ticket prices the last two seasons following Rose injuries, according to Crain's.
