The Chicago Cubs held leads in the eighth and tenth innings, but their bullpen imploded for the second straight night as the Milwaukee Brewers notched a 5-3 walk-off victory.
After Albert Almora Jr. gave the team the lead in the 10th inning, Christian Yelich blasted a solo home run off of Craig Kimbrel in the bottom of the frame to tie things up, and then Keston Hiura hit a two-run home run to give the Brewers a 5-3 victory.
The loss is Kimbrel's second of the season for the Cubs, who are now 1-4 on their current road trip.
For the second straight night, Ben Gamel came through with a big hit against the Cubs, getting the Brewers on the board with a solo home run in the eighth, and Hiura hit an RBI double to tie the game in the eighth inning of the contest.
Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run home run in the third inning for the Cubs, his 21st of the season.
That home run had the Cubs in front until the eighth inning, when Joe Maddon pulled Jon Lester after 94 pitches. The Cubs' bullpen immediately coughed up a run, as Steve Cishek surrendered a home run to Gamel to make it 2-1. Cishek also allowed a double to Lorenzo Cain before being yanked from the contest, and ultimately Tyler Chatwood surrendered a double to Hiura to knot the game up at 2-2.
The Cubs took the lead in the 10th inning thanks to a home run by Almora, but they couldn't hold it, as Yelich homered off of Kimbrel to lead off the frame, and then Hiura hit a home run to right field to give the Brewers their second straight comeback victory.
