Buckingham Fountain Officially Opens for the Summer

One of Chicago’s most popular attractions is now open as the water was turned on at the Buckingham Fountain Sunday afternoon.

The famous fountain was turned on as part of the “Switch on Summer” celebration, which involved various companies and Chicago landmarks like the Shedd Aquarium and Brookfield Zoo.

Live music and entertainment were also on the docket as residents and tourists celebrated the unofficial start of the summer season.

The fountain stays on through the summer months, and is usually turned off in mid-to-late October.
