Illinois gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner will appear alongside former U.S. Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal at the Navy Seal Foundation's upcoming Chicago fundraiser.
Rauner, running for governor on the Republican ticket, is among a ritzy roster of co-chairs for the Sept. 11 gala whose big-money funders include GOP donor Ron Gidwitz (who's helping Rauner's campaign) as well as Chicago money manager David Herro (who recently contributed $150K to Mayor Rahm Emanuel's re-election Super PAC). Also slated to co-chair is Windy City investor, Emanuel adviser and Obama Library funder Michael Sacks, according to the Sun-Times.
McChrystal, meanwhile, will be the gala's "special guest," a somewhat controversial choice.
The former general stepped down in disgrace four years ago after a damning Rolling Stone article revealed his uncensored thoughts on Vice President Joe Biden and former National Security Advisor James L. Jones among others in the government. McChrystal retired soon after and was replaced by David Petraeus, another decorated controversy magnet.
Last year, McCrystal published a memoir, My Share of the Task, that detailed tension between the White House and the military that stemmed differences over Afghanistan.
