Retired Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has had a bit of time to adjust to his first summer in decades where he doesn't have to prepare for football in the fall.
Urlacher spoke to NBC 5 from the American Century Championship golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, and doesn't seem to be missing the gridiron too much.
"I'm enjoying it. I should have done it five years ago," Urlacher joked. "It's been so nice, I got a bunch of family time this year, traveling, golfing obviously."
Urlacher still isn't happy with the way his tenure as a Bear ended. The two sides weren't able to come to an agreement on his contract. He says he still speaks with George McCaskey on occasion, but is not happy with how general manager Phil Emery handled negotiations.
"I just wish they would have been more honest with me ... I wish it were more honest, and it would have gone a lot smoother I think, on both sides," Urlacher said.
Urlacher says he will be watching his buddies on the team this year, and still can't help but refer to the team as "we." And what if the Bears were able to win the Super Bowl?
"Most of the players I'd be happy for, but I'd be mad because I wasn't a part of it. It'd be frustrating."
