A McHenry County mother continues to hold out hope that someone has information that will lead authorities to the driver of a white semi truck that may have caused the crash that killed the son she calls her "best friend."

Julie Huffar's 27-year-old son, Bret Huffar, was killed on his way to work at a Culver's restaurant in Woodstock on the afternoon of June 7.

He was driving eastbound on US Highway 14 near Bunker Hill Road, between Harvard and Woodstock, when a white semi truck swerved into his lane and forced him off the road, according to a statement by the McHenry County Sheriff's Department.

When he regained control, he slammed head-on into a second semi truck and was killed instantly.

The driver of the first semi-truck did not stop.

"I knew he'd always be there for me," Julie Huffar whispered Wednesday, surrounded by the dozens and dozens of flowers left from her son's visitation last Sunday. "I wanted grandchildren. Now all that stuff is just gone."

She said she can't have closure until the driver of the first semi truck is found and there are answers to her many questions.

"I just want some justice for him," she said.

The Huffar Family and the McHenry County Crimestoppers have offered up a combined $6,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.
