Few Answers Found in Investigation of Scuba Death

Kenneth Uhl died Saturday while diving with fellow Boy Scouts.

Investigators are trying to figure out what killed a 16-year-old boy who was scuba diving in a quarry near Kankakee.

Authorities say Kenneth Uhl of Buffalo Grove was a certified scuba diver. He died Saturday while diving with his fellow Boy Scouts at the Haigh Quarry.

Kankakee County Coroner Robert Gessner said Uhl was discovered missing when he didn't resurface after his third dive.  Rescue divers called to the scene ultimately found his body.

He was pronounced dead at a Kankakee hospital.

"Ken was really a viable and contributing young person to our school," said school Principal Carol Burlinski, according to the Daily Herald. "I think that whenever a young person is taken from us suddenly, someone that has their life and dreams planned out, it really puts the value of our lives in perspective."

Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner said there is no preliminary cause of death.

"We're waiting for toxicology (tests) to come back," he said. "We're going to check on the scuba equipment."
