Boy Burned After Riding Bike Over Pile of Flaming Books: Police

A child was taken to the hospital after suffering burns from riding his bike over a pile of flaming books and other objects on Chicago’s South Side, police said Monday.

The boy, 11, was with a group of children near West 86th and South Peoria streets in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood about 3:15 p.m. starting miscellaneous objects on fire, police said. When the boy rode his bike over the flaming objects, his pants caught fire and he suffered burns to his legs, police and fire officials confirmed.

The boy was transported to Comers Children Hospital where his condition had stabilized, police said.
