The body cameras that are being worn by more and more police officers across the nation are coming to Bourbonnais in Kankakee County.
The department will soon launch a pilot program that will make the force the first in the county to have the cameras, The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reported.
Police Chief Jim Phelps said donations allowed the department to buy six body cameras — enough to outfit a shift on the streets.
Departments around the country have been equipping officers with the cameras. Last month, the Chicago Police Department announced officers would begin wearing body cameras as part of a pilot study.
