Bolingbrook Police Investigate Brazen Smash-and-Grab Thefts

A series of four businesses were burglarized on Friday morning

Police in suburban Bolingbrook are searching for suspects in a series of brazen smash-and-grab robberies early Friday morning.

According to authorities, the four robberies occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. at a series of businesses along Bolingbrook Drive, including a Subway, Gigante Bakery, El Authentico Burrito, and Neveria Michoacana.

Surveillance footage shows multiple thieves walking through the businesses after smashing windows to gain entry. In one such incident at Gigante Bakery, the thieves went straight for the cash register, ripping it free off the counter and walking away from the scene.

“They broke everything. There’s nothing I can do,” Juan Lopez, owner of Gigante Bakery, said.

The Subway location hit by the thieves is currently closed for repairs, but other stores are remaining open as customers try to show support for the businesses as they try to rebound from the thefts.

“I’m really sad, and it makes Bolingbrook look bad,” one resident said. “I look at this, but there’s no explanation for it. It makes no sense.”

Friday, authorities continued to comb through surveillance footage from all four restaurants, in the hope that they can find the suspects responsible.

It’s unclear just how many suspects police are looking for, but the investigation will continue, according to authorities.
