Chicago-based airplane manufacturing company Boeing has introduced a new airplane with greater fuel efficiency, despite its larger interior.
The 787 Dreamliner, touted as being 20 percent more fuel efficient than previous Boeing models, will ultimately lower operating costs thanks to its lighter design.
The new design was unveiled in Everett, Wash. Saturday in coordination with All Nippon Airways.
"[All Nippon Airways] passengers will be the first to experience the 787 Dreamliner's comfortable interior environment," said Mitsuo Morimoto, ANA senior executive vice president and member of the board of directors of Boeing, in a statement. "Passengers will enjoy a spacious interior, larger windows, comfortable seats and touch-panel in-flight entertainment screens."
Instead of being made of aluminum, 50 percent of the aircraft features lighter-weight composite materials. The cabin of the airplane also features larger luggage bins.
The Dreamliner's first charter flight will go from Tokyo to Hong Kong in September on All Nippon Airways.
