A body found in Lake Michigan Friday afternoon in north suburban Evanston has been identified as a North Side man who was reported missing a few days earlier.

Chicago Police were searching for 28-year-old Pengjun Shen, who had been reported missing Jan. 4 and was suffering from depression, when they spotted a body in the lake just after 1 p.m. Friday near the 300 block of Sheridan Road in Evanston, according to Evanston police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Chicago detectives contacted Evanston police.

Authorities found the missing man’s clothing and personal items on the shore, police said. The medical examiner’s office positively identified the body as Shen, who lived in the 6800 block of North Sheridan. An autopsy did not rule on cause and manner of death, with results pending further investigation.

Police said there were no signs of foul play. Evanston detectives are conducting a death investigation.
