Body Found Frozen in Pool Near Scene of December Fatal Fire in North Suburbs

Waukegan police confirmed Monday they found a body in a swimming pool behind a home in a quiet neighborhood a month after a fatal fire broke out at the same location.

An 18-year-old woman died Dec. 4th in the basement of the home in the 1300 block of North Jackson in Waukegan. The woman was reportedly staying in an illegal apartment in the home's basement where the fire started. The Lake County News-Sun reported at the time the cause of the fire was unknown but it started in a couch.

It is unclear if the body found in the pool Monday is related to the fire.

The family of 18-year-old Lucio Cambray, a Waukegan teen who has been missing since Christmas Day, is fearing the worst and held a vigil Friday night. He had a relationship with the woman who died in the fire, family said.

More than 50 people organized a search for him on Sunday but he was not found.

Waukegan police detectives discovered the body in the pool overnight.

Extracting the body from the frozen pool was difficult, authorities said. It has still not been identified.

The autopsy has been delayed 24 to 48 hours to allow the body to thaw.
